EdTech NOW is a short-form podcast that covers real world uses of education tech in the K-12 classroom. The podcast is designed to be teacher-friendly and useful to school administrators who are deciding on the technology to use in their classrooms and schools. We also look toward the future, examining how tech is changing education and education careers. The podcast was sponsored by our client Stackup, a startup working on a limited budget for marketing and promotion. Stackup’s founder wanted to use the podcast to build deeper relationships within the education community.

Development

Before we started production, we researched the most influential voices in education technology today. Working with recommendations from the Stackup team, and developing our own leads, our goal was to capture a diverse set of interviewees all over the US, who work with students in K-12 environments. We were also interested in having podcast conversations with school administrators and thought leaders. We built a database of about 60 potential guests for our episode order of 10 podcasts. Since Stackup had a small team, most of the development and production duties on the day-to- day were handled by Red Cup.

Production

Production of the podcast was remote - no studios were used. We sent interviewees microphones to make a high quality recording. The Stackup team wanted original music for the podcast, so we commissioned a custom track from one of our music partners, DHM Music Design.

Post-Production and Promotion

Red Cup, in the role of something like an acting marketing director, supported each podcast episode with detailed show notes that were posted to our blog, to social media channels, and also to Medium.

Podcast episodes make for strong backlinks for our clients. Stackup was listed in every description and mentioned in every post with a link. When the episodes were shared online, Stackup reaped the rewards. Stackup also benefited from network building in the educational tech community. The podcast made friends for the young company, connected like-minded educators and technologists, and built strong network that endured well beyond the initial episode order. Partly on the strength of his leadership in commissioning the podcast, Stackup’s founder Nick Garvin was named one of Forbes 30 Under 30 in Education.
